“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you
on the water.”
“Come,” [Jesus] said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and
came toward Jesus.

Matthew 14:28-29
Peter doesn’t always get things right. But I love what he does here. And I love the example that he sets for
us.
Jesus, who was walking on the water, told Peter to
come. So what is a disciple (a
follower) to do? He stepped out of
the boat to be with his Master. Peter
courageously followed Jesus, and he ended up walking on water.
Can the same be said of you? Are you willing to courageously follow Jesus where he’s
leading? Jesus encouraged the
disheartened (Matthew 11:1-19); he spoke truth when it wasn’t popular
(11:20-24); and he met the needs of people (Matthew 14:13-21). Are you willing to follow Jesus when
that means doing things that aren’t comfortable or “safe”?
“And when they climbed back into the boat, the wind died
down. Then those who were in the
boat worshiped [Jesus] saying, ‘Truly you are the Son of God’” (Matthew
14:33). At the end of the day,
Peter had a bigger and better picture of Jesus because he was bold enough to step
out of the boat to follow. Might the
same be said of you and me.
