Ain’t No Rock!

It’s a beautiful, 80 degree day here today at Lake Gloria … Summer is on the way and the quiet Rec Deck, Games Lodge and Dining Hall will be bustling with activity and excitement in no time at all.  In fact, I can almost hear the dining hall singing, ringing loudly out the screens and across the lake.  One of my favorites is “Aint’ no rock.”  (which, by the way, is going to be a track on the SB2W Dining Hall Songs project that will drop sometime this year … yep, that’s right!  You heard it here first … we’re putting some of your favorites together for you to enjoy all year long. :)
Anyway, back to my thought … you may or may not be aware that the song “Ain’t no rock” comes straight from one of the scripture readings for this week.  In Luke 19, as Jesus is entering Jerusalem to the shouts of “Hosanna!”, the Pharisees get on Jesus’ case about all of his followers making his entry so “triumphal.”  They ask Jesus to rebuke the people … to stop their praising.  Jesus replies, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.”  While Jesus wasn’t necessarily saying it’s either the people or the rocks, he means to clearly say that he is worthy of the praise.  “For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible … all things were created through him and for him.” (Colossians 1:16)  The reality was and is that creation rightly recognizing Jesus for who he is can’t help but exclaim his sovereignty, his majesty, his preeminence.  Have you been “praising His Holy name?”  Maybe it’s because you haven’t been beholding our King for who he really is … if you were, there ain’t no rock, no tree or no bird that would be heard over your heart and mind and voice.  Don’t let the rocks and birds and trees have all the joy!
